Privacy policy

We collect almost nothing. This page says plainly what we do and do not collect, and why.

The short version

  • You can read this whole website without giving us anything. There is no account, no sign up and no form.
  • This site uses no cookies and no tracking. We have no analytics, no adverts and no tracking pixels.
  • What you type in the door finder stays on your phone or computer. Nothing is sent to us.
  • If you write to us, we see your email address and what you write. We use it only to reply.
  • Please never send us case papers, names or details of a case.
  • We never sell your information, and we never share it for adverts.

Who we are

Insoumis is an independent, non-party movement for legal literacy and reform. We are not affiliated with any political party or with any similarly named organisation in India or abroad.

The legal name of the entity that runs this website and our social media accounts is Insoumis.

You can reach us at hello@insoumis.org.

What this website collects

Nothing from you directly. Like every website, the computer that hosts this site (our web host) automatically notes basic technical details whenever a page is opened. These are the address of the device, the time, the page asked for and the type of browser. This is part of how the internet works. We do not use these details to find out who you are. The web host keeps them under its own rules.

We may use the free tools of Google (Search Console) and Bing (Webmaster Tools) to see how our pages appear in search. They tell us about our website and which searches bring people to it. They do not tell us who you are.

If you write to us

If you email us, we see your email address and your message. We use them only to reply to you. We do not pass them to anyone. We keep a message only as long as we need it, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.

Please do not send case papers, names, addresses or details of any case. We do not give advice on cases. If such details reach us, we will not act on them and we will delete them.

Our social media accounts

We post on Facebook and Instagram (both run by Meta), on X, on YouTube and on LinkedIn. We have also reserved a name on Reddit. We do not post, comment, vote or send messages there.

When you like, comment, message, follow or watch on any of these, that platform collects your information under its own rules. We see only what the platform shows to the owner of an account, such as your public name, your comment and overall numbers. We do not use your name or your comment anywhere else. Please never put names, addresses or details of a case in a comment or a message.

Only the accounts we list on our About page speak for Insoumis.

Our private posting tool

We use a private tool called the Insoumis Desk to plan, prepare and schedule our own posts. It runs on one computer that belongs to the movement. It is not a public app, and nobody else can sign in to it.

The Desk can connect to our own YouTube channel, only after the person who runs that channel signs in to Google and says yes. It uses that permission for four things on our own channel only: to upload our videos, thumbnails and captions, to set when a video goes public, to check the status of our own videos, and to read the numbers of our own videos, such as views and watch time.

  • The Desk does not collect information about people who watch our videos, and it does not read anyone's private information.
  • The sign-in key from Google is stored in locked form on that one computer. It is never put in a document, an email or a chat, and it is never shared.
  • We do not sell this information, we do not use it for adverts, and we do not give it to anyone else.
  • The Insoumis Desk's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use rules.
  • By using YouTube API Services, we are bound by the YouTube Terms of Service. Google's own Privacy Policy also applies.
  • The channel's owner can take this permission away at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions. You can also ask us to disconnect it by writing to us.

Facebook and Instagram. The Desk can also connect to our own Facebook Page and Instagram account, again only after the owner of the account signs in and says yes. It would be used to schedule our own posts, add our own first comment, and read the numbers of our own posts, such as reach and likes. This connection is not in use at the moment. If we use it, every promise in the list above applies to it too, and we follow the Meta Platform Terms.

X, LinkedIn and Reddit. We post to X and LinkedIn by hand. We do not connect any tool to them. Nothing is posted to Reddit.

Links to other websites

This site links to official websites, such as the courts, India Code, NALSA and Tele-Law, and to our social media pages. When you open a link, that website's own privacy rules apply. We do not control them.

Children

This site is for adults who are looking for legal information. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Your choices, and how to have your information deleted

If we hold your email or your message because you wrote to us, you can ask us what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to hello@insoumis.org and say what you would like. We will reply in plain words, and we will delete what you ask us to delete within 30 days.

If you have commented on one of our posts and want the comment removed, you can delete it yourself on the platform. You can also write to us and we will hide it.

If you own a channel or a page that we connect to our private tool, you can take our permission away yourself at any time. For Google and YouTube, go to myaccount.google.com/permissions. For Facebook and Instagram, open Settings, then Business integrations, and remove the app.

Changes to this page

If we change this page, we change the date at the top. If we ever start to use cookies, tracking or forms, we will say so here before we do.

General information, not advice on your case. Please speak to your own lawyer, or to your District Legal Services Authority, about your case. Our terms of use are on their own page.
